The houndstooth pattern goes back many years. It was originally a weaving pattern for fabric. It is rather complicated looking but is actually very simple to make.
There are two ways to approach it. You can determine what size quilt you want to make and decide what size blocks to make from that. Or you can decide what size blocks you want to make and make enough to get the size quilt that you want. This pattern works with any size block, too.
There are only three blocks required for this quilt. Two of them are just solid squares – one in the dark color and one in the light color. The third block is a striped block.
